How long does IVF treatment take to complete?

The ‘usual’ IVF timeline: Every infertile patient differs from others. For example, some women easily conceive via iVF. However, others have to face various complications throughout the whole procedure. On the other hand, every iVF centre has its own rules & regulations or protocols that change the timeframe of IVF treatment. The following are significant steps that a patient has to pass during the treatment. These are:

Preliminary consultation: This is a period when infertile couples consult a doctor to have IVF treatment. During this phase, a doctor confers full-fledged information about the test tube baby procedure and resolves patients’ queries. Infertile experts also try to know about the patient’s previous health history to give treatment accordingly.

Suppressing hormone production: You may know the success rate of IVF depends on the maturation of the eggs produced by the women’s ovaries. Eggs start building from the fluid-filled sacs (known as follicles) that later take the shape of matured eggs. During the IVF cycle, these sacs start building. The development of these follicles stimulates the growth of the luteinizing hormone. This hormone confers final maturation, and eggs are ready to release.

Stimulating egg supply: During this IVF treatment, a lady has conferred with Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) injections daily to encourage the growth of egg follicles. When these follicles matured enough, your doctor performed egg retrieval. Along with this, to avoid any unwanted complications, a doctor performs daily blood tests and scans.

Down-regulation: A woman is also treated with agonist injections daily, starting about fourteen days before stimulation. This will stop the natural LH surge. The agonist injections continue during the period that the FSH-containing products are taken.

Egg collection: When egg follicles hold optimum size and the lady’s hormones reach the acceptable level, your doctor gives you a last-moment hormone injection thirty-four to thirty-eight hours before the egg retrieval. After this hormone injection, eggs are ready to be retrieved. This injection mainly injects at night so that eggs will get prepared in an optimum size and shape.
